Further to my last post here, I've done some clean-up on the concepts in the project. To try and make things a bit more 'solid', I've redone the concepts in digital drawing rather than on paper. This was th result:
While I'm not really happy with the results, and they're obviously pretty rough designs, I think this makes the ideas a bit more alive and realistic. I think that most of it feels like its a part of the world now that there's colour. For one, I think this gives me an idea of how the characters would actually look if animated.
I think that the colours are definitely not final, but I can visualize more how these creatures would look and move. The worm, for example, definitely seems more alive now.
For one, I think the design of the worm creature still has some work to be done, since I don't quite see how it would work in terms of the world of the demented brain. There isn't really something the worm represents. What I mean by that is that it's not a disease or mental disorder, It's just an interesting design. If we came up with a purpose for it, I would be happy with our work on this project. For example, the worms could be dementia, or some other degenerative disease that the brain creates itself as an accident.
Overall, the project is coming together well, and I like that these creatures are understandable and yet somehow otherworldly, which is the balance that I think we were aiming for.
