Week 9 Animation Studio Progress (Hell World)
Adapting Tonals to a new world and trying to fix communication problems
After finishing up with the Ice World project, I was teamed up with Travis, Jacob, and Patrick. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to meet up for the group meeting this week because I was away on a trip, and so I've spent much of my time trying to keep up with the group.

Our first step was a bit of a mistake. When the group first met, they thought that the Map that was written on the wall was still a part of the project, when in reality the project had developed past that.
The world had a story that we hadn't realised was there, so we had to catch up a bit after making that mistake. Luckily, our tonal were still accurate enough to be used.
The day after returning from a trip, I started doing tonals. To inform them, I looked at the concept art for DOOM and mordor, and this helped me understand colour and lighting in this world.

The main challenge of this task was to draw colours into our tonals, and this was what I started with. To begin with, I tried looking at tutorials on YouTube about colour, and the main conclusion I got from them was that there are three things to think about: Value, Hue, and Saturation. In the Hell world, it made the most sense to have strong reds and low values. My main struggles with drawing tonals so far has been hue. I can't seem to get this part to meld into my images.
These tutorials were my research this week, as well as the concept art behind Mordor and Doom.

The following is what I actually created:
I also made a couple other tonals as seen below:
I think while I got the idea across, there's a fair bit of extra work I could do to get the images to really mesh. I'm not sure about what kind of feedback i actually got this week, since I was in the last group to present. Overall, I think I should just double down on giving images a 1-2-3 read, and get the palette to mesh with what I'm trying to do.
This week is storyboarding, and I'm more familiar with this due to my film background, so I'm excited to get going.
