Week 7 Life Drawing

Life Drawing Week 7
The homework for this week was to draw spheres in perspective with shading. The following is one of the pages I drew:
I think that I got the gist of the task, and that the spheres i made do look accurate. I'm actually fairly surprised that I was able to complete this task, because of the struggles of the last few tasks we've done.
To point out some flaws, I think that I didn't put them in proper perspective with the horizon line in a few drawings, namely this one:

On the whole, though, I think I did the task fairly well. The shading lightens up at the bottom to convey the reflection of the light on the ground, and the spheres lighten up fairly consistently.

When drawing a Cascade of balls, I think that I should have drawn it so that there were more shadows to draw, since it looks fairly flat without them. That's an important realisation for me when drawing shaded objects, that without a shadow it looks like the objects are floating.
I think I was much less successful in class today, however. We went to drawing 30 second and 1 minute drawings, as well as drawing the subject sitting in the chair, and I struggled with both of them.

With the 30 second drawings, I just couldn't keep up. I don't think I can get the form down correctly with 5 minutes, so with a shorter time limit m drawings mostly just look like lines of action and some spheres. I think that I need to be able to understand the three core spheres of the human body before I really succeed in this task. As it is, when I finish a 30 second drawing, it looks deformed, flat, and dead.

While drawing the figure sitting in a chair, another problem surfaced with my life drawing. I really struggle with perspective as it is, so seeing a form in a chair usually ends up with a stiff, unfinished mess. As Mike suggested, the core of the drawing is the relationship between the sphere of the person's waist and the seat of the chair. I still have problems drawing the combination of a rectangle in perspective and a sphere sitting on top of it, so until I get that, the drawings are going to have perspective issues.

Furthermore, I still struggle to draw the spheres of the human body, and I tend to kill the drawing. This is something I'll focus on when drawing Pinocchio and other Characters for the next class.
