Conann wasn't in this week (Feb 12th), so we didn't get any new information. We were told to continue our Schematic and Artefact work.
So far, I've mostly focused on the Schematic. I took what I'd already done ( The Excel Sheet ) and split the story up into three groups: Blomkvist's (Daniel Craig) character arc, Salander's (Rooney Mara) character arc, and the Mystery.
Blomkvist is definitely the one to follow the hero's journey the most. He has almost every moment in the Hero's journey, and he's doubtlessly the main character of the story. In the script and the movie, he's the one that the story revolves around.
Salander, on the other hand, barely follows the Hero's journey at all. She doesn't have as much of a character arc, and she doesn't have nearly the same amount of screen-time as Blomkvist. Still though, she as an arc where she turns from a punished, violent rebel into someone with more of a vigilante sense of justice. I think it's a bit strange that the name of the movie is about her, but she's not really the focus.
Finally, there's the mystery. This is a bit more difficult to pin down, since the stroy here is essentially the detectives trying to reveal evil. However, it is interesting to look at in terms of plot progression, because the detective work stops and starts in tandem with Blomkvist's hero's journey. The mystery is essentially a way for the creators to investigate aspects of Blomkvist's personality, and his relationship to Salander. It's used as a way for the two of them to communicate.
I think I'll make a schematic of these three storylines, and then see if it's a good idea to add in other character's appearances, like Blomkvist's lover Erika, or Bjurman.

Artefact
The other part of the task, the Artefact, has been more difficult. We originally had the idea to have three desks in the Animation room get taken over by the characters, but Becca and others thought it was a bit too much of a collage, without much thought put into it. I came up with the idea to incorporate Blomkvist's cigarettes in the story, and for now that's what our artefact will be.
The cigarettes are an important symbol for Blomkvist, since he starts his journey by buying a pack, and ends it by smoking the last one. It'd be a good way to show his progression through the film/script/book. We don't have much more in the way of ideas than that so far.
