The extra lesson this week was pretty quiet, and I figure that's because people were off celebrating Valentine's day.
We started off with about 45 minutes of one minute warm ups. I was actually quite happy with how these turned out, and I think that's mostly because I was getting back into the rhythm of Life drawing after the break. Some of the ones I did do actually look a bit more alive than usual.
They aren't great, but I do think I'm starting to interpret the model's pose more than just trying to copy it down. The rightmost image here is probably the best pose I did during warm-up. I think I was able to get the movement and the hips down pretty well.
The other thing we did this class was to draw a sort of turnaround of the model's head. We drew him at profile and head-on, and then, without the model, we had to imagine his head at 45 degrees. I surprised myself here, since my drawings weren't completely unrecognisable.
I managed some decent faces (for my skill level) even though I'm not really happy with the overall appearance of these drawings.
I found the time we had to draw the model was a bit excessive, since I had basically finished the drawings halfway through the poses. I don't know why this happened, since I wasn't rushing at all. Maybe I'm just not interpreting the model's face enough. I peeked at a few other drawings, and they definitely seemed to have more finesse.
The 45 degree pose turned out better than expected too. I thought it would end up being really warped and flat, but I managed to make it seem at least somewhat angled. I don't think it's a very accurate representation of the model, but it wasn't a total disaster. For that drawing, I should have taken more time, and also focused more on the details of the model's face when I was drawing the other angles.
Overall I was surprised at how things went this class, even though I had low expectations to begin with, since I had a rough few weeks in life drawing.

No Class, since there's worry that we're falling behind on the Artefact in the other class.
