Wednesday 21st February
There wasn't an extra life drawing class today, I think because of some scheduling conflict.
Thursday 22nd February
The class today was interesting and pretty fun. I was a lot happier with how my drawing went compared to last week, and I think my drawings were a lot more well thought out than the last couple of weeks. I also feel like I've been looser with my drawing this week than before.
The task for the day was to make a storyboard of a man losing his hat in the wind, and picking it up. The following are my storyboards:

I think that my life drawing here went pretty well, although a few frames definitely needed more time and though put into them, like the legs in frame 3, the body in frame seven, and a couple other places. I was running behind on a few of my drawings, so I had to guess a bit for a few of the storyboards.
The other thing about these storyboards is that the framing and set-up doesn't really make sense. The guy's hat falls away to his right in frame 2 and three, but then he reaches down to his left to grab the hat. What happened was that The model took off his hat, and I thought that he was just removing it from the scene, but he actually placed the hat where it supposedly blew off. I didn't draw it like that, and in frame 3 you can see that I changed the placement of the hat to make the next shot work, but the way it's all framed doesn't work as a result. he pulls back from left to right in those two frames, like the wind is coming from the right, but the hat ends up on the left. So, other than those parts, I'm generally happy with the results.
The exercise got me thinking about how to frame a shot, how to make cuts make sense, and how to emphasize movement in shots. A lot of this was a good refresher for me from my film classes in high school. I got back to thinking about camera angles, editing, and conveying meaning in a film.
There wasn't homework this week, mostly because other projects are the priority at the moment.
