Semester 2 Week 5 3D

Live streamed Class (Mar. 2)

In the live streamed class I learned a few things about UV mapping and textures. I've been a bit confused about the texturing side of things, and it clarified the way to texture an object. Going through texture mapping, unfolding, and laying out the texture in the set editor is now clear to me.

The thing that still confuses me is actually creating textures. I'm worried that I won't be able to draw realistic textures in photo shop, which makes most of the 3D stuff look bad. I hope that things aren't too difficult, but it's something I hadn't really thought about having to do before. I got the sense that we go into more depth in second year, so at least it isn't as important at the moment.

Floating City

The floating city project hasn't moved all that much since last week. I've modelled more of the clock, just to make it a bit more believable. I added clock hands, and other small details. It now looks a bit better.

The things we need now are a storyboard, and facts to put up on the video. I'm concerned that the 3D modelling work hasn't really happened yet for the other members of the group, so I'm not convinced that we're actually on schedule to have all the models and such ready for Monday. I hope we will, but I'm just not sure, especially since I haven't even seen a few group members since the start of the project.

I'm going to put together a storyboard on my own, and hopefully people will agree with what I do. The storyboard isn't quite as important in this project in my opinion, mostly because the project itself is very straightforward and factual. I think we also all have a good sense of how it will look any ways. It seems like I'll also be the one to animate the project, since my modelling work has been the skeleton of everyone else's work.

I should get to work. I'll probably post again on Monday.
