I think the first step towards fixing this is for me to warp my drawings for perspective. I need to make things that are closer larger, because as it stands my drawings are all at the same size, like they're on the same plane. As such, I can't tell if the model's weight is towards or away from the page. Having said that, I do think the first image below has some good perspective, especially the left image. It's not far from what I was going for, although the size and perspective doesn't really affect the drawing.
I've realised that while I draw the model's surroundings as 3D, the character is flat and two dimensional. This is a limiter to my drawings' energy and believability.
A few weeks ago in Life Drawing class we had a task where we storyboarded a scene, and I think the reason I liked my drawings from that session was because I used perspective to get my drawing across. The drawing wasn't a 2D character in a 3D environment, it was actually reaching towards and away from the frame. This went a long way towards the energy in my drawing.
