Semester 2 Week 8 Life Drawing

Life Drawing this week was pretty similar to the other times that I've come back after a break. I my drawings are noticeably worse than before the break, but at this point it's to be expected. I think I did manage some passable ones though, like the left one in the image below.

I struggled a lot to get depth in my drawings, so I tried to focus on that for the class. I tried drawing the boxes around the characters to try and get that depth right, but I couldn't really make it work, and I'm not happy with the lack of depth in my results. I've been reading The Animator's Survival Kit a bit lately, as well as some of the other reading material, and according to them, the 3 parts of drawing are the form, the weight, and the depth. I think I'm improving at form, but I lack a lot with depth.
I also messed up with the weight of my drawings a couple times. The balance was totally off. I think a lot of my problems this week will be improved just by drawing some more in the meantime.

We also did a walk cycle. I think this was the biggest challenge we've faced in a while, and I'm not happy with the result. I lost the balance of a character walking. The way that people walk is by continually falling forward and catching themselves, and I forgot this basic mechanic when doing the walk cycle.

Overall, I'm surprised that my drawing wasn't worse than it was. I feel like I've kept some of the skills from before the Easter break. Some pieces of my drawings do work, I believe.

Next week we're going to the zoo, so that will be a whole new challenge for me (I'm not a big animal person).
