Semester 2 Week 11 Life Drawing

No classes this week, we're supposed to be focusing on the other projects, which is what I'm doing.

Semester 2 Week 2 Animation Narratives (Schematic)

Today, (Monday), I've tried to get as much done as possible since i won't be around the next few days. I watched the assigned film in the morning ( The girl with The Dragon Tattoo) , and began to write out every single scene in the film on a spreadsheet. I haven't finished it, (It's a really arduous task), but it's definitely been interesting so far to see how the writer (Steven Zaillian) worked in all of the characters, since the story basically bounces between Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) and Salander/The Girl with the dragon tattoo (Rooney Mara), every single scene. On top of that, each secondary character has at least one scene at least every scene or so, so the audience doesn't forget their role to play. I also think that the way the Zaillian transitions is really neat. Almost every scene connects to one another somehow, even if it's very subtle. For example, Salander does something violent to end a scene, and then a cat turns up it's ears in Blomkv...

Life Drawing Week 8 (Drawing Dirk the Daring, Madam Mim, and Pinocchio.

Week 8 Life Drawing This week's Life Drawing Homework was a challenge. A lot more complexity is required when drawing Pinocchio, Dirk the Daring and Madam Mim as opposed to Winnie the Pooh or Spheres in perspective. It's for this reason that I feel I've not really completed the requested task. Reflection on the Task: Essentially, I can't get the correct shapes of the characters I'm trying to draw. My attempts to draw Pinocchio, for example, were flawed because I don't really understand the shapes that I'm dealing with. I especially struggled with his chin and his shoulders, because I couldn't tell how the shapes actually work. In the below image, it's visible that I don't quite get it. (Mike gave me some feedback, and told me to think of it as a human skull that was rounded out. I think this will help me in next week's homework. Semester 2 Week 11 Animated Narratives

Unfortunately, this week was filled with a lot of rendering and a lot of late nights. I'll run through what I did during the week, and then reflect on it. The main thing I worked on this week was the first shot of our sequence. I spent a full day getting the clouds working and looking right, and another day fiddling with the lighting, the scene layout, and the render settings. I figured that this week would be the most important, since I could then basically just use the same lighting and render settings for the whole project. So, I spent a lot of my time on this shot: I wasn't really happy with how the skydome looked, and how it projected, so I decided to look for another option. I found a few. Firstly, I could use a Bifrost fluid to render the cloud, but that would take a long time to render, and also require a lot more time to get figured out.
